What Does Region Free Mean?If a disc is region free that means that it will play on any blu-ray player worldwide regardless of were it was released. All of my discs are U.S. releases (Region A), but the region free discs will play any where. To determine what region you are look below.
What Region Code Are You?Blu-ray discs may be encoded with a region code, however this is not mandatory and around two-thirds of all released discs are region free.
Determining If A Movie Will Be Region FreeIn determining a pre-order if it will be region free here is a small guideline to help predict the future. I don't list any region code of a movie on my site until it has been confirmed, but you can cheat a little by using these guidelines. Disney/Buena Vista: Most day-and-dates are region coded; however some older releases are region coded. Lionsgate: Have a mix of region coded and region free discs. Fox: More titles from Fox have been becoming region free, more catalog titles, but still expect them to be region coded. MGM: Very few titles that have been released by them are region free. Paramount: Most discs are region free with very few exceptions. DreamWorks: All discs are region free. Warner: All discs are region free. New Line: Most are becoming region free. Universal Studios: All discs are region free. Starz/Anchor Bay: Have only released region free discs. Weinstein Company: Most discs are region free but some are not. Magnonlia Pictures: Mostly region free discs but have some region coded also. R&B Films: All discs are region free. Image Entertainment: Some are region free and some are not. Eagle Rock Entertainment: All discs are region free. Echo Bridge: All discs are region free. Miramax: A mix of both First Look: All discs are region free. BBC Video: Most discs are region free. A & E Home Video: Most discs are region free. HBO: Most discs are region free. |
